Teaching General English and English for Specific Purposes: гостьова лекція від доцентки чеського університету імені Масарика

В межах тижня факультету української філології, іноземних мов та соціальних комунікацій для студентів бакалаврського і магістерського рівнів вищої освіти освітньо-професійної програми «Середня освіта (Англійська й німецька мови та зарубіжна література)» була проведена гостьова лекція на тему: «Teaching General English and English for Specific Purposes: Key Differences in Focus and Approach». Лекторка – Тетяна Кібальнікова, PhD, доцентка університету імені Масарика в місті Брно, Чеська республіка (Assistant Professor at the Medical Department of the Language Center of Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic).

Тема лекції  виявилась надзвичайно актуальною, адже є суттєва різниця між викладанням англійської мови в закладах загальної середньої освіти, в профільній старшій школі та викладанням професійної англійської. Лекторка докладно, кваліфіковано і наочно розповіла про  відмінності між загальною англійською (General English) та англійською для фахівців різних галузей (English for Specific Purposes), висвітливши особливості формулювання мети, формування змісту, мовного інвентарю, добору методів та засобів навчання, а також оцінювання. Практикоорієнтованість, інтерактивність викладу, насиченість прикладами з реального досвіду Тетяни Кібальнікової зробили лекцію надзвичайно інформативною, корисною та мотивуючою. Студенти зрозуміли, наскільки важливо в своїй педагогічній діяльності вміти адаптувати навчальні курси під потреби учнів, добираючи відповідні методи і технології навчання.

Софія Ліннікова (група АН23Б): Tatiana Kibalnikova was a speaker at today’s meeting. The lecture was truly incredible because it successfully combined both practical examples and theoretical concepts, making the topic engaging and easy to understand. I especially appreciated the way the speaker explained the difference between General English and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in great detail.

Валерія Грідньова (група АН23Б): Tetiana Volodymyrivna told us a lot of interesting things that we would probably not learn during our regular studies. For us, as future teachers, this knowledge is truly important and meaningful. In the future, I would like to attend more lectures like this and discover more unusual and useful information. I would also enjoy listening to more professors like her, getting to know them better, and communicating with them.

Олена Дроздова (група АН23Б): The presentation was interesting, modern, and easy to follow. Overall, this lecture broadened my understanding of language teaching and showed how English can be taught more effectively according to students’ goals and future professions. I would love to attend more lectures like this as the topic is relevant for me.

Лілія Мазуренко (група АН23Б): I especially enjoyed the part about medical English. The real-life examples demonstrated how language is applied in professional communication. The speaker also emphasized the importance of selecting suitable vocabulary and grammar according to students’ professional goals and interests.

Ольга Чістоклєтова (група АН23Б): It was very informative to listen to about teaching English to future doctors, about the features and specifics of teaching medical terms. Overall, this guest lecture about teaching General English and English for Specific Purposes was a great opportunity to learn something new about teaching English.

Світлана Войцеховська (група АН23Б): For me, as a future teacher, this lecture was very useful and inspiring. It helped me better understand how teaching methods can vary depending on students’ needs, goals, and professional fields. I also learned a lot about the importance of adapting materials and approaches to make lessons more effective and motivating for learners. I am grateful for the opportunity to attend such a professional and engaging presentation.
